Gardenos (also called Vitalades beach) is what a Greek family beach should be: a long ribbon of golden sand, gently shelving water that stays shallow for ages, and a handful of family-run tavernas where lunch arrives with your feet still sandy. It never feels packed — walk two minutes from the tavernas and you have the sand to yourself. Sunsets here are quietly spectacular, with the Ionian turning gold behind the caretta-friendly dunes. Easy to reach on the paved road from Kavos.

Gardenos is on the west coast below the village of Vitalades, 15 minutes from Kavos on a paved road. Parking is free next to the tavernas at the end of the road, and a transfer can drop you right at the sand and collect you later.
A long beach of soft golden sand with the west coast's big skies. A couple of family tavernas sit right on the shore with sunbeds in front of them; walk a few minutes in either direction for space to yourself. The sea is sandy underfoot and gets deep gradually, with some surf when the wind is up.
Afternoon into sunset. Gardenos faces west, so the light is golden late in the day and the tavernas fill for dinner with the sun going down over the sea.
- Book a table for sunset in July and August; the shore tavernas are popular.
