Issos doesn't look like the rest of Corfu — it barely looks like Greece. Vast golden dunes roll down to a wide, wind-brushed beach, with the protected Korission lagoon and its cedar forest just behind. The scenery is so cinematic that film crews keep finding it. The shallow, warm water and steady breeze make it a favourite for kitesurfers and windsurfers, while the Natura 2000 lagoon draws walkers and birdwatchers. Come late afternoon: the dunes at sunset are one of the great sights of the island. A seasonal canteen covers the essentials.
Plan your visit
Issos is 25 minutes from Kavos, past Lefkimmi and Agios Georgios Argyrades. Leave the car at the parking area at the end of the road by the canteen, then walk a few minutes along the boardwalk over the dunes to the sand. A transfer drops you at the same parking area.
A vast, empty beach of fine sand with Sahara-like dunes behind it and the Korission lagoon beyond. Sunbeds and a seasonal canteen stand near the entrance; after that it is open sand for kilometres. The sea is shallow for a long way out, and the steady afternoon wind makes it a favourite with kite- and windsurfers.
Morning, before the wind picks up, for swimming and for walking the dunes. Afternoons are for watching the kitesurfers or for a long walk along the shore.
